Bathroom Makeover begins

I started with the backsplash. I did not know what colors I was going to use but I knew I was not going to use beige or white. Nothing against these colors but they are too safe. I went to Home Depot and decided on blue and yellow. The tiles were about a $1 a piece.

I removed the old tiles with a hammer and scraper. I hit the tiles with the hammer until it cracked then pulled them off with the scraper. It was pretty easy.

The rest is history: glued new tiles and grouted. Done.

Bathroom teardown

Bathroom teardown occured last year. I did not know what I wanted to do with the walls surrounding the bathtub but I wanted color. The walls are painted white over several layers of paint. The owners of the apartment are not concerned about quality. The apartment is a rent-control apartment in Santa Monica. So when one tenant moves out they do not strip the old paint, prime and repaint; instead they paint over the old paint and hardware, thus adding another layer. It's tacky.

I brushed paint remover on the walls then I peeled the paint by hand and scraper.

My Bathroom - Before

My bathroom. What can I say about my bathroom? It was ugly. Before I moved in, I knew I was going to make some drastic changes to the bathroom But I did not what I was going to do. I have started the make-over process and I am almost finished. These are the before pics. The walls surrounding the bathtub were painted white masking several other layers of paint. The back splash above the sink are pink ceramic tiles. The bathroom walls were a boring white. The floor tiles are a checkered gray and grayer. I think at one time the tiles were white & gray but over time the dirt set in.

My Apt - Kitchen

It's long and narrow with a small stove. I rarely use the oven but use the burners a lot. There is a lot of wasted space and no counter space. When I make over the kitchen, I will build some shelves and a hanging pot rack. There is a 5 foot glass table located beyond the stove. Behind the table I have a 7 foot bookshelf with all my coffee table books, jewelry design books, beads and jewelry design tools. There is the refrigerator and the cabinets over the sink. The cabinets are really low. The kitchen is the last room I will redo. I plan to paint it yellow.

My Apt - Main Room

This is a pic of the front room from the kitchen viewing the front door into the apartment. The apartment has a nice set of french windows but with an ugly set of vertical blinds. These will be removed in the remodelling process.

It has track lighting lining both sides of the room. But only one side works.

My Apt - Main Room

I moved into my apartment last year. It's a studio apartment with a good size kitchen. The pics below are of the front room, the main living area. It has blue carpet. Yuck! I gotta work with it.

As you enter the apartment this is the view. Past the front room to the left is the kitchen and to the right is the hall with a double door closet then pass the hallway is the bathroom.
